Empowerment Series

The Empowerment Series are immersive cultural awareness experiences designed to foster understanding, empathy, and social change. Through dynamic partnerships with paid presenters and Deaf Equity, these programs offer powerful learning opportunities that go beyond knowledge—they inspire action and create meaningful connections across diverse communities.

The core goal of the Empowerment Series is to catalyze collective transformation. These experiences are an investment—by individuals and organizations alike—to deepen our understanding of cultural dynamics, promote justice, and confront inequality. They are a call to action: to actively engage in learning to stand up for justice, and to contribute to the collective effort of building a more inclusive, equitable society for all.

By participating in the Empowerment Series, we take intentional steps toward not only understanding but also actively improving the world around us. These programs empower individuals to become change agents, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and helping to create a stronger, more connected society.

community education classes and e-learning

Our community education and E-learning classes are offered at free or reduced rates with 100% access. These classes are usually one to two hours long and are offered in person or online. Some workshops offer CEUS to our Interpreters, Educators, and other professionals. The goal of these workshops is that often many classes offered in mainstream society are not accessible. It is frustrating to have to constantly request access and advocate for it. Having the class offered in your native language by the community. members who are experts in the field is a significant relief, one that should not be a burden the community should have to bear.

Family Friendly and Community Engagement Opportunities

Our community Engagement efforts aim to create opportunities for all members to come together and enjoy shared experiences. These events help reduce isolation, build new relationships, and foster a sense of belonging. Many of our members have shared that they appreciate the welcoming atmosphere, the free access to events (which removes financial barriers), and the opportunity to connect with others in their native language.

Thompson Hall Renovation/Elevator Project

Since 1916, Charles Thompson Memorial Hall has been the heartbeat and principal social hub for Deaf people throughout Minnesota. It is considered one of the oldest Deaf Clubs in the world. It is vital for our community to save what has been home for generations before us and what could be home for generations after us.

This is one of Deaf Equity's biggest and most long-term projects. The landmark building is not accessible or inclusive for many of our cherished patrons and community members. To welcome all people, we must add an elevator, as well as  preserve and renovate the building.

Since July 2017, Deaf Equity along with Thompson Hall's Executive Board, Keystone Interpreting Solutions, and members of the community have been working together to reach our goal. Help us make this dream come true!
